Upper Daybreak Sidechannel Resotration

HENDERSON provided construction services to Clark County for improvement of salmonid rearing habitat in two adjacent degraded side channels of the East Fork Lewis River near Daybreak Park in Battleground, Washington.  Based on the design, 70 pieces of large woody debris were installed the side channel was excavated to increase overall fish-bearing capacity  and to improve hydraulic self-maintenance.

The Lower Columbia Salmon Recovery Plan lists East Fork Lewis River salmon and steelhead populations as of critical importance, emphasizing the watershed’s importance for salmon recovery efforts within the greater lower Columbia River basin.¬† By increasing and enhancing off-channel rearing habitat, the project will benefit populations of several federally listed threatened species, including steelhead, Chinook, coho and chum salmon.
